About one and a half year ago, I found myself spending the night at Viennα airport, until my fligh for Athens was ready to go in the next morning. I had plenty of luggage, but no space for books. I needed something to keep me company in the long hours. So, I enterd the first, and probably the only one, bookstore that there was and while moving in a clupmsy style between the narrow corridors I saw a book that made a difference to me. I would say it was the colors of its cover. Vivid blue and strong yellow, and its size, just delightful. Light and small, but wide enough to fit into my palms. The title of it: The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin.
The book was delivered to me by a grumpy and rude cashier-woman in a perfect, transparent, plastic bag. I immediately found a comfortable spot, somewhere in the middle of the airport. I sat down on a semicurcular, brown, leather sofa and started to read greadily. This was the first book I had ever read about happiness. This book was the result of Gretchen Rubin’s experiment. An expirement on how she changed her everyday life and cultivated more happiness in it. She complited twelve resolutions, one for every month, and after she did the trick, she was sharing her experience with us. This was completely fantastic! I had totally set the mood for my little happiness projects. I was at aese, while spending a tiring night with other sleepless people.
Gretchen’s language is direct and true and her book isn’t a self-help book with a ready-made formula for you to follow. She talks about her own personal growth and encourages her audience to take action in their own way to improve their lifes. She is the living examlpe that one holds their fate in their own hands, an opinion which I wholeheartedlly agree with. It gave me so much pleasure and insight that I was carryng it with me for weeks after I had finishe reading. I was transfering it from one bag into another, as I was changing outfits and travelling around the world. It was also no coincidence that it has been a #1 New York Times Best Seller and International Best Seller.
So, now you know, this books has been my personal fire-starter on finding the power to explore the happiness within me. In addition, I’ll be sharing my thoughts and knowledge on the subject, here, in this amazing blog! Thank you Gretchen and thank you for being here.
Now I’m talking to you, yes you! You must be pretty awesome since you ‘re here already! I would like to hear your story. What has been the first trigger for you to start looking for the happiness within? Let me know in the comments below. I’m very much interested.
